BSP Supremo Mayawati Reinstates Nephew Akash Anand As Successor

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday reinstated her nephew Akash Anand as her successor, weeks after removing him from his post in May.

After removing Akash Anand as the party's national co-ordinator and her successor last month, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday reinstated her nephew as her successor once again. The decision was announed during a meeting of the BSP office bearers in Lucknow today.

On the day of the third phase of Lok Sabha polls in May, Maywati had removed Akash Anand from his post saying that he would be removed "until he attains full maturity". The decision came after a case was registered against Akash Anand for using "unparliamentary words" during a rally in Sitapur.

BSP Leader Lal Ji Medhankar confirmed the news saying that Akash Anand has been announced as Maywati's successor and will take charge of the national coordinator.

'Removing Akash As My Successor In Larger Interest Of Party': Mayawati

The decision to remove Akash earlier was made by the former UP CM Mayawati in a series of posts on X.

"Along with promoting other people in the party, I declared Akash Anand as the National Coordinator and my successor, but in the larger interest of the party and the movement, he is being removed from both these important responsibilities until he attains full maturity," Mayawati had announced her decision in May in a post on X.

However, she had also said that Akash's father Anand Kumar, would continue to serve his current role within the party.

In April, a case was registered against Akash Anand for allegedly using unparliamnentary words and trying to create enmity between people through his statements during a political rally. During the Lok Sabha polls campaigning, BSP had cancelled all his rallies as well.

He hit headlines for delivering a speech at a rally, during which he likened the BJP in the state to the Taliban.

Attacking BJP in his address, Akash Anand had stated: "This government is a bulldozer government and a government of traitors. The party that leaves its youth hungry and enslaves its elderly is a terrorist government. Taliban runs such a government in Afghanistan."
