‘Matter Resolved’, Says BJP Telangana President After Son Assaults College Student

BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay Kumar issued a clarification saying the matter is resolved after his son was booked by the Dundigal police for assaulting a fellow college student.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Telangana president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday gave a clarification after his son, Bandi Sai Bhagirath, was booked by the Dundigal police on Tuesday for assaulting a fellow college student at Mahindra University.

Stating that the matter was resolved, Sanjay Kumar said, “Incident took place two months ago at University campus in Hyderabad. My son’s batch mate harassed a girl by texting her. He fought with his batchmate after finding that the latter took the girl's number from his phone. The matter was resolved, said Bandi Sanjay," reported news agency ANI.

A case was filed against Sai Bhagirath after college authorities lodged a complaint, the police said, according to the news agency.

A senior Telangana police official said, "Case filed against Bandi Sai Bhageerath after a complaint from college authorities. He's the son of Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay. We took up investigation. Notice will be served: Telangana Police senior official on viral video of Bandi Sai Bhageerath beating a fellow student."

In a separate incident, a video showing Bhagirath abusing a student went viral on social media. The incident happened a few days ago. The BJP leader's son, who is pursuing a management course, was angry with the victim, Sriram, for allegedly getting close to a sister of his friend. In the video, Bhagirath can be heard hurling abuse at the victim and then slapping and punching him.

Leaders and supporters of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) widely shared the video and trained guns on the BJP leader.

A video message has surfaced where the victim stated that he was beaten up by Sai Bhageerath as he misbehaved with a girl, who happens to be the sister of one of his other friends. He further stated that the matter has been resolved now and there is no enmity between them.

However, the victim did not file a complaint with the police, but the university lodged a complaint based on which a case was registered.
