Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray To Meet PM Modi, Will Discuss Covid Situation & Maratha Quota

Earlier on Sunday, Thackeray said that his government was taking a “calculated risk” by relaxing restrictions in certain parts of the state.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Tuesday.

Earlier, Reports suggested the meeting is likely to focus on the Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra besides other issues. Other subjects that can be discussed include Maratha reservation, relief package and GST returns for the state.

Confirming the same, State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that a delegation of Maharashtra government led by CM Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar will meet PM Modi in Delhi tomorrow. "They will discuss issues like Maratha reservation, OBC reservation, and cyclone relief," he informed.

Earlier on Sunday, Thackeray said that his government was taking a “calculated risk” by relaxing restrictions in certain parts of the state.

He urged the people to follow the required Covid-19 protocol and “take care of themselves”.

“Nothing is going to be eased immediately. Some criteria and levels have been fixed, and local administration will take decisions on whether to ease or tighten restrictions,” PTI quoted Thackeray as saying.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came as his government has announced a five-level plan to relax the Covid-induced restrictions in the state beginning Monday.

As part of the decision which is said to have been taken based on the weekly positivity rate and the oxygen beds occupancy, the top-ranked districts with less than five percent positivity rates and in which oxygen bed occupancy rate is less than 25 percent can open without restrictions all activities, including malls, restaurants, shops and movie theatres.

The districts with a positivity rate in excess of 20 percent and bed occupancy rates over 75 percent will, however, not get any relaxation in the Covid restrictions.

Meanwhile, several shops in Mumbai have reopened as the five-level plan comes into effect in the country’s financial capital.
