Kaliaganj Violence: BJP Brought People From Bihar, Thrashed Women Cops, Says Mamata Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee claimed that the BJP sent people to burn down the police station and public property and brutally beat up women police officers.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (April 26) slammed those responsible for torching a police station in the state's Uttar Dinajpur district in protest of the death of a teenage girl last week. Mamata claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sent people to burn down the police station and public property and that they brutally beat up women police personnel. She also stated that the police would investigate attaching the property of those who participated in the rioting. She said that she would defeat the conspiracy to foment anarchy in Bengal.

Commenting on whether the clash was planned or not, the Bengal CM said: "I won’t say that the Kaliaganj incident was planned. It's an unfortunate incident and we are with the family. But what happened later was planned."

The Bengal chief minister also stated that the state government would investigate both the girl's death and the arson attack on Tuesday in Bengal's Kaliaganj.

THE TUESDAY VIOLENCE AT KALIYAGANJ POLICE STATION:

In response to the death of a teenage girl last week, residents of Kaliaganj, West Bengal, set fire to a police station in the Uttar Dinajpur district. Protesters set fire to the Kaliaganj Police Station in order for the accused to be arrested and harshly sentenced. Protesters hurled stones, tried to breach a police barricade, and set fire to property and vehicles. Police used tear gas to disperse them.

Last Friday, the girl's body was discovered floating in a canal. According to news agency PTI, the preliminary post-mortem report of the minor girl who was killed in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district earlier this week revealed that death occurred due to some poisonous substance and there were no injury marks found on the body. A 20-year-old man, identified as the primary suspect in the case, was also arrested, according to police.
