Bengal: Kaliaganj Residents Set Police Station On Fire Over Death Of 17-Year-Old Girl. VIDEO

A police station in the Uttar Dinajpur district in West Bengal was set on fire by Kaliaganj residents protesting the death of a teenage girl last week. The protesters set the Kaliaganj Police Station, demanding the arrest and stringent punishment for the accused. The protest turned violent when protesters pelted stones, tried to break a police barricade and set properties and vehicles on fire. Police used tear gas to disperse them.

The body of the girl was found floating in a canal last Friday. The preliminary post-mortem report of the minor girl who was killed in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district earlier this week has revealed that death occurred due to some poisonous substance and there was no injury marks found on the body, news agency PTI quoted the Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Sana Akhtar as saying. Police further said that a 20-year-old man, identified as the prime accused in the case, was arrested.  

"The preliminary post-mortem report of the minor girl revealed that the death occurred due to some poisonous substance and there was no injury on the body," news agency PTI quoted the Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Sana Akhtar as saying. The police further said that a 20-year-old man, identified as the prime accused in the case, was arrested.

“Victim's post-mortem report given by doctors reveals that death was due to a poisonous substance. No major injury. We will again ask doctors to clarify if there's any sexual injury,” the SP said. "We are investigating the case from all angles," he added.

The 17-year-old girl, whose body was found in a canal in Kaliaganj police station area on Friday, knew the man, police further said. Alleging that she was raped and killed, locals had put up road blockades by burning tyres and set several shops on fire.
