J&K: NIA Arrests Jaish-e-Mohammad Operative In Terror Conspiracy Case

The NIA arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammad operative, Mohd Ubaid Malik of Kupwara district, for his involvement in the Jammu and Kashmir terror conspiracy case.

The National Investigation Agency arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammad operative, identified as Mohd Ubaid Malik of Kupwara district, for his involvement in the terror conspiracy case in Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI reported on Sunday.

Mohd Ubaid Malik, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operative in Pakistan, was in constant contact with a JeM commander in Pakistan. Investigations revealed that the accused was passing on classified information to the Pakistan-based commander, particularly about troop and security force movements, according to NIA.

On Saturday, the NIA raided multiple locations in nine districts of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in a terror-funding case.

According to the NIA, extensive searches were conducted in the districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Awantipora, Anantnag, Handwara, Kupwara, and Poonch for members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and overground workers involved in conspiracies hatched by proscribed terrorist organisations and their affiliates.

The searches also focused on the terror funding case, which was registered on its own initiative by the agency on February 5, 2021, according to the spokesperson, who added that a large number of incriminating documents and digital devices were seized during the searches and were being examined to track down further suspect links.

According to the official, the terror funding case involves the collection of funds by JeI (J&K) ostensibly for charitable purposes but instead used to promote terror activities by proscribed terrorist organisations such as Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The NIA had previously charged four people in the case, which involved well-organized cadres of terrorist outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA filed another case against various banned terrorist organisations and their newly formed affiliates on June 21, last year.
