Mobile Internet Services Suspended In Parts Of J&K's Pulwama For Security Reasons

Mobile internet services have been suspended in parts of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama for security reasons, said officials.

The mobile internet services have been suspeded in parts of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district due to security reasons, said the officials on Tuesday, according to a PTI report. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar issued the directions to the Telecom Service Providers to suspend mobile data services in Wampora and Hunipora areas of the south Kashmir district, the officials added.

The order issued by the ADGP stated the possibility of mobile data services being misused by anti-national elements, which may cause deterioration in public order, the officials added, as per the report.

The Telecom Service Providers received the direction to suspend the mobile data within three kilometres radius of the above-mentioned areas from 7 pm on November 5 till 7 pm on November 8, the officials said.

In a separate development, the Manipur government on Monday extended the suspension of mobile internet services in the state till November 8. The mobile internet has remained banned in Manipur since violence erupted in the northeastern state on May 3, barring some days in September.

The internet ban was extended following "apprehensions that anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speeches and hate video messages, inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the state", stated a PTI report.

On Tuesday, the Manipur High Court directed the state government to operationalise mobile towers on a trial basis, in all those district headquarters which have not been affected by ethnic strife.

The order was issued by the division bench comprising Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui asking the state "to extend the services to areas" which were unaffected by violence, according to PTI.
