Indian Coast Guard Evacuates 2 Wounded Crew Members From Foreign Merchant Vessel

According to the spokesperson, the individuals who were hurt have been recognized as Ambrose Antony (48) and Pradeep Jaiswal (32).

Two Indian citizens who sustained burns were expertly rescued from a commercial ship near the Kochi shore in a quick and coordinated effort, as per a statement from a Defense representative on Thursday, news agency PTI reported. According to the spokesperson, the individuals who were hurt have been recognized as Ambrose Antony (48) and Pradeep Jaiswal (32). The duo sustained severe second-degree burns while carrying out their duties in the engine room of the MT Xante, a foreign ship en route from the UAE to Chennai. This incident occurred on Wednesday evening, according to him.

With information obtained by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai, Coast Guard District HQ-4 collaborated with a designated local representative to secure permission and facilitate evacuation.

Without delay, the medical team aboard Indian Coast Guard Ship C-162 stationed at Kochi set sail in a medical setup to retrieve injured individuals from the vessel, MT Xante.

"The medical team examined the patients and assessed the feasibility of transferring them at sea," the spokesman was quoted by PTI in its report.

By strictly following safety measures to prevent worsened injuries, the individuals were transported to the Coast Guard Jetty in Kochi on Thursday and then transferred to a private medical facility.

Earlier in April, Indian Coast Guard had evacuated a crew member from merchant vessel ‘Helen’ off the Probandar coast in Gujarat, according to the official.

The Coast Guard's maritime rescue subcentre in Porbandar was informed of a medical crisis aboard a vessel flying the Panamanian flag. The ship was en route from Sikka to Durban, South Africa and had reached a distance of approximately 200 kilometers from the Porbandar Coast.

Early in the morning, the Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-161 departed and arrived at the vessel. The Indian crew member, who had lost his right index finger, was provided with immediate medical assistance and taken to a safe location.
