'India And Pakistan Cannot Afford A War': Muslim Law Board As Tensions Escalate
Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions after the Pahalgam attack, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has urged peace, condemned terrorism, and called for dialogue to protect civilians.

As tensions soar along the India-Pakistan border following the devastating Pahalgam attack, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has issued an appeal for peace, urging both nuclear-armed neighbours to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than conflict.
In a special online meeting held a day after India's Operation Sindoor, the AIMPLB passed a resolution expressing deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating situation between the two countries. The Board unequivocally condemned terrorism and the killing of innocent civilians. It said such acts have no place in Islamic teachings or in universally recognised human values. "Therefore, countries should resolve their matters through bilateral dialogues and discussions. It is also a fact that war is not a solution to any issue—especially in the presence of nuclear weapons, India and Pakistan cannot afford a war," the Board stated, warning that any conflict could plunge millions into "insurmountable difficulties and suffering".
The Board’s message comes at a time when both nations are on high alert, with cross-border shelling and missile exchanges causing panic in frontier cities and stoking fears of a wider war. The Pahalgam attack, which targeted mainly Hindu tourists and left the nation reeling, led to a surge in public outcry and mounting pressure on the Indian government to respond forcefully.
In response, India suspended diplomatic ties, frozen bilateral trade, and revoked key agreements, while Pakistan has vowed to retaliate against any violation of its sovereignty.
The AIMPLB has called for unity among the public, political parties, armed forces, and the government, urging all stakeholders to come together during these critical times. The Board stressed the importance of bilateral discussions and diplomatic channels, reiterating that dialogue remains the only viable path to lasting peace.
Despite the ongoing crisis, the AIMPLB announced that it would continue its "Save Waqf" campaign, although all public meetings and events have been postponed until May 16 as a precaution. However, indoor programmes, including roundtable meetings, interfaith dialogues, mosque sermons, and press conferences, will proceed as scheduled.
