Heatwave Alert In Rajasthan, MP; Rain & Thunderstorms In These States. Check IMD's Weather Forecast

IMD stated that severe heat and heatwave conditions will prevail for a few more days in Rajasthan, causing the temperature to increase by one to two degrees in the next two days.

There seems to be no respite from the scorching heat for Rajasthan, which has been reeling under the heatwave as India Meteorological Department's forecast shows no sign of relief for the state soon. After sweltering at 46 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the severe heat and heatwave conditions will stay the same for a few more days in Rajasthan, and the maximum temperature might increase by another one to two degrees in the next two days, IMD said.

On May 9, i.e. today, there is a possibility of intense heat waves at some pockets in Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions. During this period, there is also a possibility of heat waves in the Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions. Heatwaves are also likely to continue in Jaipur, Bikaner, and Bharatpur divisions on May 10.

"A fresh Heat Wave spell likely over Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh during May 8- May 10, and prevailing heatwave conditions over south peninsular India likely to abate from May 8," IMD stated in its release.

Besides Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh is also in the clutches of scorching heat and is very likely to witness heat wave conditions during May 8- May 10, along with isolated pockets of East Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch and over West Rajasthan.   

Additioanlly, hot and humid weather will very likely prevail in isolated pockets over coastal areas of Gujarat during next 5 days and over Kerala and Mahe during may 8- May 10, IMD stated.

Talking about the weather in Madhya Pradesh and the possibility of rain in some parts of the state, MET scientist Parmendra Kumar stated: "...There is cyclonic circulation in and around Rajasthan and trough wind discontinuity. It extends from Northeast Rajasthan to North Interior Karnataka. There is a western disturbance, so there are chances of thunderstorms, light rain and gusty wind at many places in the state..."

"The temperature in Bhopal was 40.8 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature recorded was 26.9 degrees Celsius," he added.

Delhi's Weather Forecast 

On Wednesday, the national capital recorded a temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius, which was a notch below the season's average.

According to IMD's weekly forecast, the temperature in Delhi will be around 42 degrees Celsius, with no heatwave conditions in the capital.

The weather in Delhi will likely be similar to last year with chances of light drizzling on May 11 and 12. "The weather office has forecast strong surface winds during the daytime on Thursday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle at 39 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively," Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist and head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre told PTI.

IMD Forecasts Rainfall For These States

Due to a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Assam, there will very likely be a fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and squally winds (40-50 kmph) over West Bengal & Sikkim until May 11.

IMD has also predicted scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha until May 12.

Maharashtra will witness isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) on May 12, and West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are also likely to experience similar weather conditions from May 8- 12.

In Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura will receive scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with chances of isolated thunderstorm during the next seven days.
