IMD Forecasts Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Across TN, Kerala & Karnataka For Next 5 Days

Amid rainfall predictions, the Southwest Monsoon has also progressed further into the southern Arabian Sea, Comorin region, and parts of the Bay of Bengal, marking a seasonal shift.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an extended spell of rainfall and thunderstorms across several southern states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, with significant weather activity expected through the next five to seven days. The Southwest Monsoon has also progressed further into the southern Arabian Sea, Comorin region, and parts of the Bay of Bengal, marking a seasonal shift.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update

Rainfall was recorded at various locations across Tamil Nadu, with more intensity noted in northern regions, while southern parts saw isolated showers. Puducherry and Karaikal also experienced some rain, according to IMD.

Temperatures showed slight fluctuations, with a drop of 1–3°C in some areas and a rise by the same margin in others. Maximum temperatures ranged from 35°C to 41°C in North Interior Tamil Nadu and hovered between 33°C and 38°C across coastal regions.

The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for several districts including Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Tiruvannamalai until May 23. In Chennai, light rain is anticipated in select areas.

Kerala Weather Update

Kerala experienced widespread rainfall, while dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep. Over the next week, Kerala is expected to see frequent rain or thunderstorms.

A yellow alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod for May 18.

Karnataka Weather Update

Coastal and South Interior Karnataka reported rainfall in the past 24 hours, while parts of North Interior Karnataka saw only sparse showers.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds (40–50 km/h) in various districts including Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Hassan, and Tumakuru. Similar conditions are expected in Bengaluru Urban and Rural, as well as Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and others.

In Bengaluru, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with intense rainfall and gusty winds. Daytime temperatures are likely to be around 30°C, with night temperatures dipping to 21°C.
