Himachal: US National Who Went Missing While Trekking In Dhauladhar Mountains Found Dead

A US national who went missing during trekking in the Dhauladhar mountain range near Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala was found dead on Tuesday, ANI reported. The body of Maximillian Lorenzo was found by the police and rescue team after the US citizen went missing on November 10.

A search operation to track the trekker was launched by police on November 11. "We got information regarding his going missing on November 10. The ongoing search operation was launched on November 11," SP Kangra Dr Kushal Chand Sharma told ANI.

The SP said sniffer dogs, police parties and a team of local trekkers were sent to the Dhauladhar mountain ranges on Tuesday to trace Anderson.

Anderson was reportedly staying at a hotel in the Naddi area of the city.

On November 8, Anderson messaged the hotel owners that he got stuck on a mountain, a report in The Tribune said. He also informed them that he had very less food left with him. After some time, his phone got switched off.

The hotel owners carried out a search operation by themselves before alerting the police.

The Himachal Pradesh police informed the US Embassy about the missing of the US national on November 10. 

The Dhauladhar range is part of a lesser Himalayan chain of mountains. The elevation of the Dhauladhar ranges varies from 3,500 m to nearly 6,000 m. The Dhauladhar range is also known as the Outer Himalayas or Lesser Himalayas. 

The range begins from near Dalhousie at the northwest end of Himachal Pradesh and passes through the state to the vicinity of the bank of the Beas river in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

From the banks of the Beas river in Kullu, the range curves towards the town of Mandi. Then, running north, it passes through Bara Bhangal, joins the Pir Panjal range and moves into Chamba in Himachal Pradesh.
