Sirmaur: A landslide occurred at Kamrau in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, blocking National Highway-707 near Barwas on Friday.

An entire mountain slipped due to the landslide after heavy rains blocking the entire highway. This untoward incident has instilled fear among the locals and left many people stranded.

The eyewitnesses captured this the viral video, which will send chills down one’s spine.

However, the best part was that none were on the highway when the landslide took place.

The traffic has currently come to a standstill on this highway, which connects Haryana to Shimla.

The locals have been warned not to visit the areas near the hills.

Around 100 villages have lost their contact with the district headquarters after this incident and reports suggest this highway will take a long time to repair. The locals can, however, take a walk to their respective villages but there are no roadways left for motor or bike traffic.

The reports also suggest that water had accumulated in a dumping ground nearby due to which this landslide took place.

The district administration is yet to issue an official statement in this regard, which is said to be one of the biggest landslides in Himachal Pradesh.

The mountain will now have to be dug to connect to the road as it is difficult to construct road on a coarse mountain.

However, the moot question here arises is if this kind of cutting is being done to generate electricity along with the cutting of trees then such accidents will continue to happen due to this.

The weather department has issued guidelines to the people not to travel in the rainy season through this highway.
