Ex-Congress Leader Hardik Patel To Join BJP On June 2

BJP will welcome Hardik Patel at their Gandhinagar office on June 2, 2022.

New Delhi: Former Congress leader Hardik Patel who quit the grand-old party a few weeks ago will join the Bhartiya Janata Party. According to ABP News sources, the youth leader will join the saffron party on June 2, ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections scheduled for later this year. Sources have also confirmed that BJP will welcome Patel at their Gandhinagar office.

Earlier, Patel had denied speculation that he will join the BJP on Monday, and took to Twitter to attack the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

"I am not joining BJP tomorrow...will let you know if something like this happens," Patel told PTI after reports suggesting that the leader will soon be seen donning a saffron shawl.

The Patidar quota agitation leader had recently resigned as the Gujarat Congress working president and from the party's primary membership.

Before quitting, Patel (28), who had joined the Congress in 2019, wrote a scathing letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, claiming the party "only played the role of a roadblock" over certain key issues in the country and was "merely reduced to opposing everything".

He had also recently praised the BJP for its "decision making" leadership. "The recent decisions that BJP has taken politically, we have to accept that they have the strength to take such steps. I believe that without even taking their side or praising them, we can at least acknowledge the truth," Patel had said.
