'Dhiraj Sahu Should Clarify': Congress Reasserts Stand On Rs 200 Cr Recovery As BJP Intensifies Attack

The Congress party distanced itself in the matter involving recovery of cash worth Rupees 200 crore from its MP, Dhiraj Sahu in Ranchi.

The Congress party on Sunday reiterated its stance on the subject of recovery of Rupees 200 crore from the premises of its Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu in Ranchi this week. Distancing itself from the issue, the Congress said this is Sahu's personal matter and has nothing to do with the party.

The Income Tax department on Wednesday raided multiple locations associated with Sahu in Odisha and Jharkhand in which it recovered cash worth Rupees 300 crore.

"I want to clarify that the party's stand on this issue is very clear. This is a personal issue of Dhiraj Sahu, and the Congress is not related to it," said Congress leader Avinash Pandey on Sunday.

"It is Sahu's responsibility to clarify how he received such large amount of money which the party would also want to know and has conveyed clear indications for the same," said the Congress leader as the Bharatiya Janata Party intensified its attack over the issue.

"This incident has shown mirror to those who regularly used to speak against the CBI and ED and had formed the INDI alliance to save themselves," said BJP leader Laxmikant Bajpai while speaking to reporters on Sunday.

"Rahul Gandhi should answer whose money it was," Bajpai said.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary In-Charge (communications) Jairam Ramesh distanced the party from the issue saying it is in no way connected with Sahu's business and that he can only explain about the money recovered by the Income Tax department.

"The Indian National Congress is in no way connected with the businesses of Dheeraj Sahu, MP," Ramesh said in a post on X.

"Only he can explain, and should explain, how huge amounts of cash have been reportedly unearthed by the income-tax authorities from his properties," he added.
