Demonetisation: Now withdraw cash up to Rs 2000 from Big Bazaar stores

NEW DELHI: As citizens across the country went into a panic mode with the Centre's demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, in a bid to ease their inconvenience slightly, the government on Tuesday announced that Rs 2000 can now be withdrawn from Big Bazaar using debit card. "Rs 2000 can now be withdrawn from Big Bazaar using debit card starting from this Thursday (November 24)," reported news agency ANI. Even 14 days after the demonetisation of high value currency notes, people in the national capital continued to face hardship in exchanging the now-defunct notes and struggled to purchase essentials to meet their daily needs. Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the people of the country to give their first-hand views about the Centre's move to spike the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Modi urged the people to participate in a survey on his official app where a number of questions have been posed regarding the scrapping of old high-value currency notes. The demonetisation, since the November 8 announcement, has triggered chaos across the country with people continuing to line up outside banks and ATMs in interminably long queues. "I want your first-hand view on the decision taken regarding currency notes. Take part in the survey on the NM App," said Modi posting a link of the app on Twitter. Woes of people seem to have no end as they are still waiting for cash in long queues outside banks and ATMs today also. (With inputs from PTI)
