Days After Balasore Tragedy, Goods Train Derails In Odisha's Rayagada

No casualties were reported in the accident and train services remained unaffected as the derailment took place on a special track.

New Delhi: Four wagons of a goods train derailed near Ambadola in Odisha's Rayagada district on Saturday, news agency PTI reported. This comes days after the devastating train derailment in Balasore killed 291 people and left over 1,100 passengers injured.

According to reports, the incident took place when the goods train was on its way to Vedanta plant in Lanjigarh from Ambadola in Kalahandi. However, no casualties were reported in the accident and train services remained unaffected as the derailment took place on a special track.

On being informed about the incident, officials concerned rushed to the spot and launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

The incident comes close on the heels of the devastating triple train accident involving Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, both of which were carrying over 2,500 passengers, and a goods train laden with iron ore at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore.

Meanwhile, the toll in triple train accident rose to 291 after a passenger from Bihar died from his injuries at SCB Medical College Hospital earlier in the day.

Sahil Mansur (32) of Roshanpur in Bihar's Bhagalpur district was identified as the passenger. According to hospital authorities, he was receiving treatment in the ICU of trauma care and was also suffering from a kidney-related condition. He was also on dialysis, officials said.

Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Superintendent of SCB Medical College Hospital, stated that the patient died as a result of cardiac arrest. He suffered various internal and exterior traumas, as well as renal problems.

Mishra stated that of the 205 patients admitted to the SCB medical college hospital, 46 are still being treated, including 13 in the intensive care unit. "Of the 13 patients in ICU, two to three people remain critical," he added, adding that the remaining patients' conditions were stable.

Prakash Ram, 22, a migrant labour from Pathra village in Bihar's Gopalganj district, died on Friday at the SCB Medical College Hospital.
