Congress puts step forward to connect with professionals via its new wing
Congress has launched a new wing - 'professionals' Congress' which will be under the leadership of diplomat-turned politician, Shashi Tharoor
New Delhi: Congress has launched a new wing - 'professionals' Congress' which will be under the leadership of diplomat-turned politician, Shashi Tharoor.
Doctors, Engineers, and other similar professionals played a significant role as campaigners in 2014 election. They had a huge effect on social media and in offices and fortunately, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was successful in wooing such professionals.
However, with the establishment of this new wing, Congress has also come forward and has finally woken up to this fact. Under the leadership of Tharoor, the wing might witness a good number of followers as Tharoor has a huge following on social media.
This sleek online platform consists of different sections. The sections are dedicated to issues like women empowerment, taxation, education, jobs and waste management.
Tharoor reportedly said in a statement that there is a disappointment among the professionals with the BJP. Things are not moving and they want an alternative.
On the other hand, an ex-MP from Mumbai, Milind Deora, has been named the vice-chairman of Professionals' Congress. The other members of the leadership team include Geeta Reddy, Gaurav Gogoi, and Salman Soz.
The initiative has been taken in order to strengthen the base of the party. It is believed that in 2014 the Congress lost the votes because of its NGO style of politics.
There was a continuous emphasis on tribal laws and land acquisition. As there was a constant debate between reforms and development, a perception was formed among the professionals and corporates. They started thinking that UPA did not care for them.
However, the party realised this later when Rahul Gandhi addressed a town hall at FICCI. He tried to convince the corporates saying that UPA cares for them and it is wrong to say that his party is against development.
