'Commitment To Transform Society Increased Holistically And Effectively Since 2014': EAM S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said at the 53rd Thuglak Annual Day function that the country's commitment to transforming society has grown holistically and effectively since 2014.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated on Saturday that since 2014, the commitment to transform society has been increasingly holistic and effective, beginning with better health and immunisation, reducing gender gaps, expanding educational access and coverage, and promoting skills to foster talent and innovation, making it easier to do business and creating more employment opportunities, news agency ANI reported.

The external affairs minister addressed the audience at the 53rd Thuglak Annual Day function.

EAM stated: "It's clear from national campaigns initiated by the Modi govt that the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) defined by the UN are among govt's key objectives even during Covid period. India matters because its record & progress will determine global success in meeting SDG targets."

He added that India had a variety of effects on the world's consciousness during the Covid period. This time, India not only produced vaccinations successfully for itself and the rest of the world, but it also created vaccines.

"The world is watching how India's health, housing, microcredit, and farmer support programs are moving forward. Now, there's interest & admiration for our technology-enabled governance. India today is perceived as an example by the global South," he was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier on Friday, he said that one of the primary agenda items of the G20 grouping under India's presidency would be a Green Development Pact with an action roadmap on combating climate change.

Speaking to the virtual Global South summit, Jaishankar stated that after consulting with developing countries, the priorities for India's G20 presidency will be decided.
