When PM Modi 'Referred' CJI Chandrachud To Vaidya During Covid. Here's What Happened

The CJI also shared his personal experience, stating that he did 'Panchkarma' about a year ago and is looking forward to doing it again at the turn of the season.

DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India, inaugurated the AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre on Thursday (February 22) at the Supreme Court premises. Speaking to ANI, Chief Justice Chandrachud shared his personal experience with AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) during his battle with Covid-19, as well as the call he received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"I've been involved with AYUSH since Covid broke out. The prime minister called me and said, 'I believe you are dealing with Covid, and I hope everything is okay. I understand you are not in good shape, but we will do everything. There is a vaidya who is also a secretary at AYUSH, and I'll set up a call with him to send you medicine and everything," CJI Chandrachud said.

"When I was sick with Covid, I took medication from AYUSH. The second and third time I had Covid, I didn't take any allopathic medicine at all," he said, emphasising his belief in alternative holistic treatments.

Justice Chandrachud expressed his concern for the well-being of all Supreme Court staff members, emphasising the importance of providing holistic healthcare beyond the judiciary.

"I want them to have a holistic pattern of life," he said, emphasising his commitment to ensuring overall wellness for all.

The AYUSH holistic wellness centre aims to promote Ayurveda and holistic lifestyle practices among Supreme Court judges, their families, and staff.

Justice Chandrachud also praised the careful planning that went into establishing the wellness centre. "The facilities, including anti-skid tiles and treatment rooms, have been scientifically prepared. Ensure that the restrooms are appropriate for the nature of the treatment being provided. It is being looked into with great care," he stated.

"I do yoga. I eat a vegan diet; I've been doing so for the past five months and plan to continue. I try to focus on the overall pattern of life, which starts with what you eat," the CJI said.

The CJI shared his personal experience, stating that he did 'Panchkarma' about a year ago and is looking forward to doing it again at the turn of the season.

Panchakarma is an Ayurvedic treatment programme that detoxifies and rejuvenates the body, mind, and consciousness. It is done individually for each person, taking into account their specific constitution and disorder, so close observation and supervision are required.

The CJI also stated that he awoke at 3.30 a.m. today to practise Yoga and has been following a completely vegan diet for the past five months. The CJI emphasised the importance of a holistic way of life, which begins with what you eat. Click here to read more.
