BRICS Summit 2018: The conference will be attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa including India's PM Narendra Modi.

NEW DELHI: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his three-nation tour of Africa on Monday, he will be attending the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa tomorrow. BRICS,  which is an acronym for the grouping of the world’s leading emerging economies, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS group comprises more than 40 per cent of the global population which represents some of the biggest emerging economies. During the 2018 summit, the groups of global leaders are expected to deliberate on global hot-spot issues, international peace and security, global governance and trade issues among others.   1. The host nation South Africa is organizing BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
  2. The theme is "BRICS in Africa: Collaboration with Developing Countries for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4thIndustrial Revolution”.
  3. This is the 10th edition of BRICS Summit.
  4. For the first time, a BRICS Leaders’ Retreat is being organized on this occasion wherein BRICS Leaders will deliberate and take stock of BRICS cooperation during the decade and on its future prospects.
  5. PM Modi will be participating along with other BRICS Leaders in sessions such as Restricted Session, Plenary Session, Leaders’ Retreat, Outreach with Leaders from Africa and Outreach with Leaders from Global South
The issues before the 10th BRICS Summit broadly include Multilateralism, Global Governance, Health and vaccines, Socio-economic empowerment of women, Peacekeeping, Network of Science Parks &Technology and Sustainable development. Till now nine BRICS summits have been held in Russian city of Yekaterinburg in June 2009, Brazil in 2010, Sanya, China in 2011, New Delhi in 2012, Durban, South Africa in 2013,Fortaleza, Brazil in 2014, Ufa Russia 2015, Goa in 2016, Xiamen China in 2017.
