'This Is Humiliation': BJP's Suvendu Adhikari Skips Bengal Governor's Oath Ceremony Over Seat Allocation

Infuriated over being allocated a seat behind TMC MPs, Leader of Opposition in Bengal Suvendu Adhikari decided to skip the oath-taking ceremony of incoming Governor CV Ananda Bose.

Alleging humiliation, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari refused to attend the oath-taking ceremony of incoming Governor CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday. He said the placement of his seat behind TMC MPs during the oath-taking seat was done on purpose to "humiliate the Opposition".

"A photo from the Raj Bhavan shows that BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar and my seats for Governor's oath-taking ceremony are behind those of TMC MPs Derek O'Brien, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and Mala Roy and next to two disqualified BJP MLAs who are with TMC now. It's political vendetta," Adhikari told mediapersons before the event.

"I wouldn't compromise the prestige of my post and so, I will not attend the programme. It has been done on purpose to humiliate the Opposition. This is a misuse of the opportunity given to her [Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee]. We've informed Governor and will meet him separately," Adhikari said.

CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday took oath as the new governor of West Bengal. He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Prakash Shrivastava in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, other state ministers and Speaker Biman Banerjee at a programme in the Raj Bhavan. He replaced LA Ganesan as the Governor of Bengal.
