JJP Chief Dushyant Chautala Keeps Both BJP And Congress Guessing

After the results of Haryana assembly election were declared on Thursday, in which his party won 10 seats, Dushyant, the new face of Jats, headed to Tihar prison where his father Ajay Chautala is lodged, to seek blessings and consult over whether allying with BJP would be the correct thing to do.

New Delhi: JJP chief Dushyant Chautala on Friday said that whichever party will agree to his Common Minimum Program will get his party's support. He, however, clarified that he wouldn't provide an outside support in the government formation in Haryana and demanded a respectable share in power . In the party's national executive meeting today, Chautala said "Some MLAs suggested we have to support Congress, some suggested supporting BJP, but we decided that whoever will support our manifesto issues we will support them". Reminding both the BJP and Congress of  his party's Common Minimum Program, Chautala said, "a resolution of 75% jobs reservation for Haryanvis, & that of Chaudhary Devi Lal's idea of old age pension was taken". On the crucial negotiations with both the parties, Chautala said, "Till now we haven't spoken to anybody on this issue as national executive was not clear on the agenda. Now we've been authorised,we'll talk to concerned people.Hopefully in few hours or few days we'll have positive result". JJP also understands that not align with the BJP in Haryana may result to a large scale defection from a party that has just tasted success and outperformed INLD, the traditional Jat party. Dushyant may portray that the key to the next government lies in his hands but reports say he is also in a state of quandary over whether working under Khattar will deal a body blow to his brand of politics. In the Haryana assembly elections, BJP emerged as the largest party by clinching 40 seats and is currently in need of six MLAs for a majority. The Congress has also reached out to Dushyant Chautala and has offered him the chief minister's if their government is formed. The grand old party won 31 of the 90 seats in the polls. Eight independents led by tainted MLA Gopal Kanda have pledged their "unconditional support" to BJP.
