'Rahul Gandhi Grows Beard Like Osama Bin Laden': Bihar BJP Chief Stokes Controversy

BJP Bihar chief compared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with slain terrorist Osama Bin Laden adding that by growing beard, Rahul thinks he would become like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bihar’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Samrat Choudhary on Saturday compared Rahul Gandhi to slain Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden stating that one cannot become Prime Minister of a country just by growing a beard. The shocking statement comes months after former Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi sported a beard during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which he later trimmed after the foot march was complete. The BJP leader was addressing a public rally in Bihar’s Araria district.

In a video tweeted by ANI, Choudhary could be heard as saying, "Congress leader Rahul Gandhi grows a beard like Osama bin Laden and thinks that he will become like Prime Minister Narendra Mod."

Choudhary also took a dig at the state’s chief minister Nitish Kumar stating that he has “lost his mental balance”.

"Nitish Kumar is going around the country, telling everyone that he is the Prime Minister of the country. Is Nitish Kumar the PM?" Choudhary claimed, which drew loud cheers from the crowd.

"Has he lost his mental balance or have I, Please tell me," Choudhary asked the crowd.

He questioned the oppositions’ inability to decide on a prime ministerial election candidate, and added that Nitish Kumar's mental state resembled the character of Aamir Khan in the film 'Ghajini'.

The JD(U) president Nitish Kumar, had last year severed ties with the BJP to join the 'Mahagathbandhan' comprising the Congress, the RJD and the Left parties. Now, Kumar has organised a meeting of the opposition parties which is to take place later this year, in Patna to chalk out a strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had made similar comments in November last year.

"I did not say anything about his (Rahul Gandhi) look. I just said with time, your face has started looking the same as Saddam Hussein's, but if you shave your beard you will start looking like Nehru," the Assam chief minister said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Chaudhary said that if the BJP forms the government in Bihar, action will be taken against those involved in cow slaughter.

Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 2, 2011, in a US Navy SEALS raid on his compound.
