Bhopal University Students Raise 'Terrorist Go Back' Slogans At Pragya Thakur; BJP MP Vows Action

According to reports, Thakur visited the Journalism and Communication campus of the university to meet female students who were sitting on a 'dharna' against the university, over attendance issue.

Bhopal: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pragya Thakur, who was recently in the news for a public spat on a SpiceJet flight, on Thursday faced a massive embarrassment as she faced 'terrorist go back' slogans at the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University in Bhopal. According to reports, Thakur visited the Journalism and Communication campus of the university to meet female students who were sitting on a 'dharna' against the university, over attendance issue. As soon as the BJP lawmaker reached the university campus, several students and workers of the National Students’ Union of India, the student wing of the Congress, raised "aatankwadi wapas jayo" (terrorist go back) slogans at her. The incident took place on Wednesday in the afternoon. Two female students sat on a dharna at the gate of the university campus from Tuesday night. As the students refused to budge, the Bhopal MP had come to meet the agitators and discuss the issue in detail. However, NSUI student activists started opposing Thakur and started shouting "terrorist go back" slogans. Reports also state that the ruckus followed for about 30 minutes as NSUI workers engaged in a verbal fight with Thakur's supporters. Fumed by the incident, the Bhopal MP called the protesters anti-nationals and ensured that she would take strict action against them for insulting a woman MP. Reacting to the incident, NSUI president Vivek Tripathi said that the workers and students did not allow Thakur to enter the university campus as she was 'playing politics over the issue related to students.' Earlier this week, Thakur had stroked yet another controversy while onboard a SpiceJet flight. BJP Lok Sabha MP blamed SpiceJet for the controversy over allotment of seat to her on a Delhi-Bhopal flight of the private airline and said she has complained to airport authorities here and will also raise the issue with the civil aviation minister. A video purportedly showing the Bhopal MP locked in an argument on seat allotment with passengers on-board the flight on Saturday has gone viral on social media. SpiceJet on Sunday said Thakur was asked by the crew on the Delhi-Bhopal flight to move to a non-emergency row seat as she was on a wheelchair but she refused, causing the flight to delay.
