Amit Shah In J&K: Home Minister To Address Public Rally In Baramullah Today, Security Tightened

Union Home Minister Amit Shah who embarked on a three-day tour to Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, will address a public rally in Baramullah today. Later in the day, Shah will hold a security review meeting that will focus on tackling attacks on non-locals in Kashmir, reported PTI.

He will also lay the foundation for various development projects in Srinagar, and will return to New Delhi the same evening, said the PTI report.

According to the news agency, train service between Baramulla and Budgam section has been suspended in view of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Baramulla. 

“The train operations on Budgam-Baramulla stretch of the Baramulla-Banihal railway line will remain suspended on October 5,” said an official, reported PTI.

The official said the suspension was ordered in connection with the VVIP visit to Baramulla and “in view of the present security scenario”. 

The checking on Srinagar-Baramulla highway has been intensified, while additional police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to keep a close watch on the situation, according to the PTI report.

Meanwhile, patrolling has been intensified at many places, especially on the Srinagar-Baramulla-Kupwara highway, the officials added. While the rally venue has been turned into a fortress.

Earlier on Tuesday the Union Home Minister addressed a rally in Rajouri district where he highlighted the benefit of the  abrogation of article 370 and said it has helped locals, particularly Dalits and backwards living in the hills.

He also spoke about his government's commitment of prioritising development in Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted how instances of stone pelting in the valley has come down by empowering the youth of the region.

"Earlier, news of stone pelting used to come from Jammu and Kashmir. Today there is no news of stone pelting. Modi ji has worked to empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir," said Shah during the rally, as reported by ANI.
