AIMPLB spokesperson Qasim Rasool Ilyas told ABP News that the Congress has assured that the party will take congnizance of their concerns when the UCC will be up for debate in Parliament.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Thursday met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the matter of the Uniform Civil Code. After the meeting, the official spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board Qasim Rasool Ilyas told ABP News that the Congress has assured that the party will take congnizance of their concerns when the UCC will be up for debate in Parliament.

Now the All India Muslim Personal Law Board will seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the matter. The spokesperson said that Uddhav Thackeray was in favour of UCC but he said that UCC should be formed only with everyone's consent and unless everyone's consent is there, this should not happen. Everyone's consent also includes the consent of the minority.

Talking about the meeting with Sharad Pawar, he said that he was not in favour of UCC.

He also said that AIMPLB will continue to open Sharia courts. “We will continue to open Sharia courts. At present, there are more than 100 Shariah courts in the country. We have a plan to open Shariah courts wherever there is a Muslim population,” the AIMPLB spokesperson said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the AIMPLB convened a significant meeting in Lucknow to discuss the proposed UCC. Following the deliberations, the board declared its opposition to the UCC. The meeting lasted approximately three hours, during which an extensive discussion on the topic took place. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, a member of the board, made the announcement and urged the public to unite against this law.

According to Mahali, the Personal Law Board is founded on Shariah principles, and as a result, no Muslim would tolerate any modifications to it.

Mahali further revealed that the AIMPLB intends to issue a press release containing detailed information about the draft that needs to be submitted to the Law Commission. Additionally, he mentioned that a link would be shared, allowing individuals to express their dissent against the UCC.

Two drafts on UCC will be handed over to the Law Commission, one will be from the Muslim Personal Law Board and the other one will be from Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. The latter which is led by its president Arshad Madani will consult with the lawyers prior to hanging over its response.
