Afghan Army Chief To Visit India Amid Ongoing War With Taliban, May Seek Help

The Afghan Army Chief will during his visit interact with top security officials, including his Indian counterpart General MM Naravane.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing war with the Taliban in Afghanistan, Afghan Army Chief General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai will pay a four-day visit to India beginning July 27.

The Afghan Army Chief will during his visit interact with top security officials, including his Indian counterpart General MM Naravane.

He is also expected to meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, sources said.

The Afghan Army Chief, who will be given a guard of honour during his visit, will also pay tribute to the soldiers who received martyrdom at the National War Memorial located at India Gate.

The visit has, however, been kept strictly confidential due to security reasons.

It is believed the visiting Army Chief can discuss the situation in Afghanistan as well as seek India’s help.

According to sources, India will not send its soldiers to Afghanistan but the military can help in other ways.

Besides training the soldiers of Afghanistan, India has given helicopters to the Afghan Army.

In fact, with the US military leaving Afghanistan, the Taliban have once again started raising their heads. The Taliban fighters have recaptured parts of Afghanistan. The war between the Afghan army and the Taliban continues in many areas, including Kandahar.

In such a situation, the Afghan Army may need military help and General Ahmadzai’s visit to New Delhi is being seen from that perspective.

General Ahmadzai has taken command of the Afghan Army last month.
