546 Technical Snags During Aircraft Operations, 8 Accidents Involving FTO Planes: Govt

Of all the 546 technical sags, the country’s largest airline IndiGo faced snags the most with 215 incidents followed by SpiceJet with 143 snags and Vistara had 97 snags. 

New Delhi: Domestic airlines faced a total of 546 technical snags during operation of aircraft last year, said the government on Thursday, reported PTI. Of all the 546 technical sags, the country’s largest airline IndiGo faced snags the most with 215 incidents followed by SpiceJet with 143 snags and Vistara had 97 snags. 

64 incidents of snag were reported by Air India while those reported by Go First and Akasa Air stood at 7 and 6, respectively, according to data provided by the civil aviation ministry in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

In 2022, Air Asia (India) witnessed 8 snags, Alliance Air reported 3 snags, Fly Big (1), TrueJet (1) and BlueDart Aviation (1).

A total of 1,090 snags were faced by airlines in the last two years.

The number of snags reported last year was slightly higher at 546 compared to 544 in 2021. 

Responding to a query on whether more technical snags are reported in the country due to low cost airlines, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh replied in the negative.

"No sir, technical snags are experienced during operation of aircraft. These may be due to improper functioning/ malfunctions of systems/ equipment/ components fitted on the aircraft," he said.

Eight Accidents Involving FTO Planes: Government

Eight accidents were reported last year which involved planes of flying training organisations and investigation related to one incident has been completed so far, the Centre said in Lok Sabha on Thursday, reported PTI. 

At present, there are 35 Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) operating at 53 bases as approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said there were a total of eight accidents in 2022 involving FTO aircraft.   

According to data provided by the minister, the investigation into the accident at Jakkur Aerodrome in Bengaluru that happened on April 21, 2022 has been completed.
