3 Dead, 4 Missing After Cloudburst in Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand

The cloudburst happened in Mando village of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand on Sunday night.

Uttarkashi: At least three people have died and four others are reported missing after a cloudburst in Uttarakhand. The incident took place in Uttarkashi district, according to officials.

" 3 people died and four people were reported as missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district," Inspector Jagdamba Prasad, Team Incharge, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Rescue operations are currently underway in the region.

As per the SDRF, Prasad was initially informed by the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Uttarkashi that some people were trapped in the village due to water coming from the drain in Mando village on Gangotri road.

Acting upon the information, the team immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted intense to very intense rainfall over the western Himalayan region – across parts of Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, northwest Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, adjoining West Rajasthan, South Haryana, and Gangetic West Bengal and neighbouring areas on Monday. The IMD has predicted heavy rains in these areas till July 21.
