‘Promised Notes, Then Raped’: 2 Bengaluru Lecturers, Friend Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Student

According to police, the sequence of crimes began when a physics lecturer invited the student to Bengaluru under the guise of sharing academic notes, only to allegedly assault her.

Three men—two of them lecturers at a private college in Moodabidri—have been arrested by the Marathahalli police for the repeated sexual assault of a female student. The arrests followed a formal complaint filed with the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, which advised the survivor to lodge a police case.

Repeated Sexual Assaults

The accused have been identified as Narendra, a Physics lecturer; Sandeep, a Biology lecturer; and Anup, a friend of the two. According to the complaint, Narendra had initially established contact with the student online, gaining her trust before taking her to Anup's apartment in Marathahalli, where the first assault took place. He then allegedly threatened her into silence.

Police say the sequence of crimes began when Narendra invited the student to Bengaluru under the guise of sharing academic notes, only to allegedly assault her at the residence of his friend, as per a report on India Today.

The situation worsened when Sandeep allegedly obtained a video clip of the assault and blackmailed the student with it, before also assaulting her. Anup, the third accused, is reported to have threatened the survivor with supposed CCTV footage from the apartment and likewise committed assault, reported News 18.

Legal Action

The assaults reportedly occurred over a month ago, but the survivor was initially too afraid to come forward. It was only after confiding in her family that the case came to light. Following intervention by her family, the Karnataka Women’s Commission got involved, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered, leading to the arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
