Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Monday, August 2: Asserting its commitment to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country, the Centre on Sunday said that over 49.49 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and Union Territories so far and a further 8,04,220 are in the pipeline.
"Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 46,70,26,662 doses (as per the data available at 8 a.m. on Sunday)," an official statement said.
It said that over 3 crore (3,00,58,190) unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and Union Territories and private hospitals to be administered.
"The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to states and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain," it said.
Odisha's Bhubaneswar has achieved the milestone of becoming the first city in the country to achieve 100 per cent vaccination coverage against COVID-19, informed Anshuman Rath, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Zonal Deputy Commissioner of South-East, Bhubaneswar.
"We had set a target to complete vaccination in a specific timeline. BMC has a record of around nine lakh people who are above 18 years of age in the city. Which includes around 31 thousand healthcare workers, 33 thousand front-line workers. 5 lakh 17 thousand people are in the age group of 18 to 44 years. 3 lakh 25 thousand people are above 45 years of age. We had set a benchmark for these categories to complete their vaccination in the specific timeline by July 31." Anshuman Rath told news agency ANI.

Around 47 crore vaccine doses were administered in July and second half of June. Vaccine availability will increase quite significantly in August & overall. Bharat Biotech is expected to provide 7-10 crore doses per month in the coming weeks: Dr NK Arora, Chairperson, COVID working group said.
Both Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute are our major vaccine suppliers and we hope that they will also be instrumental in completing the adult immunization drive in country by the end, he added.
Some more data have been asked by the expert group. All of us are very hopeful that this vaccine will be available: Dr NK Arora said on Zydus Cadila's COVID-19 vaccine.
