2018 Honda Amaze Vs Hyundai Xcent: Variants Comparison
Is the new Amaze a better value proposition than the feature-packed Xcent?
Honda launched the 2018 Amaze at an introductory price of Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). At this price, the new Amaze goes head to head with other sub-4m sedans like the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor and the Volkswagen Ameo. We have already compared the Amaze with the segment-leader Dzire and now let’s compare it with the second-best selling car of the class, the Hyundai Xcent.
Engine Specifications
Honda Amaze E vs Hyundai Xcent E
Price Difference: Petrol and diesel versions of the Amaze’ entry-level E variant are more expensive over the corresponding versions of the Xcent E by Rs 11,000 and Rs 29,000, respectively.
Common features: Dual front airbags, manual AC, front power windows
Honda Amaze E (over the Xcent E): ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, day/night IRVM and rear power windows.
Hyundai Xcent E (over the Amaze E): The Xcent in its base variant does not have anything over the Amaze E
Verdict: Since the E variant of the Hyundai Xcent doesn’t even offer ABS, it doesn’t fulfil the basic criteria for us to recommend it. So, the Amaze is clearly the one to go for.

Honda Amaze S vs Hyundai Xcent S
Price Difference: Petrol and diesel versions of the Amaze S are Rs 1,000 and Rs 19,000 more expensive than the corresponding versions of the Xcent S, respectively. For variants with an automatic transmission, the Amaze S CVT (petrol) is Rs 11,000 more expensive than the Xcent AT.
Common features (over the previous variants): Rear parking sensors (for the Xcent), day/night IRVM, all four power windows, music system (Xcent gets a touchscreen unit) with steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, central locking with keyless entry and tilt adjustable steering.
Honda Amaze S (over Xcent S): Height adjustable driver’s seat, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Hyundai Xcent S (over Amaze S): Front fog lamps, LED DRLs, rear AC vents and reverse parking camera.
Verdict: Since the Hyundai Xcent S variant doesn’t offer ABS, it doesn’t fulfil the basic criteria for us to recommend it. Clearly again, the Amaze trumps the Xcent here as well.

Honda Amaze V vs Hyundai Xcent SX
Price Difference: Petrol and diesel versions of the Amaze V are more expensive than the corresponding versions of the Xcent SX by Rs 23,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively.
Common features (over the previous variants): ABS with EBD (for the Xcent), height adjustable driver seat and front fog lamps
Honda Amaze V (over Xcent SX): automatic climate control, push-button start/stop and paddle shifters (automatic)
Hyundai Xcent SX (over Amaze V): rear AC vents, reverse parking camera, LED DRLs and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Verdict: The Xcent is our pick here. It's not only more affordable but is better equipped as well.
Honda Amaze VX vs Hyundai Xcent SX(O)
Price Difference: In its petrol guise, the Xcent is pricier than the Amaze by Rs 6,000. However, when it comes to the diesel version, the Amaze costs Rs 11,000 more over the Xcent.
Common Features (over the previous variants): 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse parking camera, automatic climate control, push-button start (for the Xcent) and 15-inch alloys
Honda Amaze VX (over Xcent SX(O)): cruise control
Hyundai Xcent SX(O) (over Amaze VX): LED DRLs
Verdict: On paper, the top-spec variants of both the cars are similarly specced. The Amaze does get cruise control which the Xcent doesn’t, but it’s a feature with limited usage. The Amaze’ diesel engine is more powerful than the Xcent’s, so that can be a deciding factor for those who’re looking for a diesel sedan out of the two.
