2018 Honda Activa 125 - What’s Changed?

In a bid to fend off competition, Honda recently updated the Activa 125 with a number of features. So what does the new generation offer over the old one? Read on!

2018 Honda Activa 125 - What’s Changed?

The Activa has been Honda’s cash cow for the longest time. Though it was present only in the 100/110cc segment, Honda decided they wanted a piece of the burgeoning 125cc segment pie as well. They retained the essential design character that the Activa is known for, and plonked in a bigger engine to compete with the Suzuki Access 125. For the 2018 model, Honda tricked out the Activa 125 with features that are present in some of their sister products in a bid to make it more relevant among the current crop of competitors.

Design & lighting:

For starters, Honda has equipped the 2018 variant with a LED headlamp. There are LED DRL’s flanking the chrome apron ornament as well. The LED setup will be more energy-efficient than the conventional halogen headlamp unit. However, Honda chose to retain the bulb-type indicators and tail light. The full-metal body has been draped in a single-tone colour for a more matured look. Rebel Red Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Pearl Amazing White, Black, Matte Crust Metallic and Matte Selene Silver Metallic are the colour options available. The front disc brake variant also gets a chrome metal muffler cover for the premium quotient.

Practicality features:

Honda has revised the analogue-digital combo cluster, and it now features an eco-speed indicator and a service due indicator. They help in riding economically and ensure hassle-free maintenance. For added convenience, the Japanese manufacturer has also equipped the Activa 125 with a 4-in-1 lock with seat-opening switch on the apron. However, the fuel lid is still under the seat. Speaking of underseat storage, it comes with an option of adding a mobile charging socket as well.

Powertrain & mechanical underpinnings:

Powering the 2018 Honda Activa 125 is the same tried-and-tested 124.9cc HET engine that’s good for 8.63PS at 6500rpm and 10.54Nm at 5000rpm. The powerplant pairs with a variomatic transmission which propels the scooter to a claimed top speed of 84kmph. Rolling on black 12-inch front and a 10-inch rear alloy wheel (steel wheel variant also available as an option), the scooter comes to a halt using 130mm drum on both ends. The brakes feature CBS (Combi Brake System), which distributes the brake force between front and rear when the rear brake lever is pulled. A 190mm front disc is offered as an option as well. Suspension responsibilities are handled by telescopic front forks and a 3-step adjustable rear shock absorber. Tyres are 90-section tubeless units on both ends.

Pricing & Competitors:

Coming to the pricing, the base drum variant with steel wheels will set you back by Rs 59,621. The drum alloy version costs Rs 61,558, while the range-topping front disc brake model is priced at Rs 64,007 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2018 Activa 125 is dearer by Rs 2,116 compared to the earlier variant. It rivals the Suzuki Access 125, TVS NTorq and Aprilia SR 125.
