2018 BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo Unveiled

German luxury automaker BMW has unveiled the 6 Series Gran Turismo. The 6 Series GT replaces the older 5 Series GT and will make its first public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show this September. However, BMW has revealed all the details of the notchback. It is based on BMW’s CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform and is longer, lighter and more spacious when compared to the 5 Series Gran Turismo.

The front end has the traditional BMW kidney grille and LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that extend to meet the kidney grille. Thanks to the active kidney grille, air curtains, air breathers and active rear spoiler, the new GT has a lower drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd compared to 0.29 Cd of the model it replaces. The  6-Series GT measures 5,091mm in length, 1,902mm in width and 1,538mm in height which is 87mm longer and 21mm shorter when compared to the 5 Series GT. However, the width of both the cars remains the same. The primary design element of the Gran Turismo which distinguishes it from other BMW sedans is the coupe-like roofline which merges into the boot providing a massive boot space of 610-litres.

When it comes to the interiors, it is loaded with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (iDrive in BMW parlance) with gesture control, remote control parking, a heads-up display and 8-way massaging front seats and electrically-reclinable rear seats with an infotainment display for rear passengers.

The 6-Series Gran Turismo has three engine options on offer, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 258PS of power and 400Nm of torque, a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine which produces 340PS/450Nm and a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel with 265PS/620Nm output. All three engines are coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Apart from the 2.0-litre diesel engine, the larger engines have optional all-wheel-drive xDrive powertrain on offer.
