Madgaon Express Review: Kunal Khemu's Directorial Debut Is Enjoyable And Entertaining

If you're in the mood for some entertaining nostalgia with friends, ‘Madgaon Express’ is a film worth watching. Amidst recent thriller releases, this film seems very fresh.

New Delhi: 'Madgaon Express' takes us on that trip to Goa that we've all dreamt of with our friends since childhood. However, only a fortunate few actually manage to materialise this dream, while the rest keep discussing it for years in a WhatsApp group. Now, after 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,' another film arrives centered around the camaraderie and adventure of three friends - Madgaon Express,’ directed by actor Kunal Khemu.

Plot: The story revolves around Dodo (Divyendu), Pinku (Pratik Gandhi), and Ayush (Avinash Tiwary), childhood friends who have always planned a trip to Goa but never got the chance to execute it due to life's twists and turns. After years apart, they reunite to finally embark on their Goa adventure. However, their trip takes an unexpected turn when they find themselves entangled with drugs and gangsters. Amidst the chaos, they navigate through personal moments, shaping the narrative of the film.

Film Analysis: From the outset, ‘Madgaon Express' distinguishes itself from films like 'Dil Chahta Hai’. Dodo's character brings humour and reminds viewers of that one friend who always remains the most excited. The film features a variety of characters, each with their unique traits, such as Mendoza Bhai and Kanchan Comedy. Kunal Khemu's writing shines, injecting humour into every scene. References to 'Dil Chahta Hai' are peppered throughout, highlighting the film's inspiration. Notably, the bed fight scenes and Kanchan Comedy's antics stand out as the film's highlights. Nora Fatehi's appearance adds glamour, while Remo D'Souza's cameo fails to leave a significant impact. The film's music also feels fresh, complementing the narrative.

Acting: Divyendu Sharma steals the show with his character, delivering expressions and dialogues that will leave audiences in stitches. Avinash Tiwari continues to impress, showcasing versatility in roles from 'Khaaki,' 'Bambai Meri Jaan,' 'Kaala,' to this comedy film. Pratik Gandhi's performance adds depth to his character, displaying his remarkable talent. The entire cast delivers commendable performances, with Kunal Khemu's directorial debut making a surprising mark.

Direction: Kunal Khemu's humour and direction make 'Madgaon Express' an enjoyable and entertaining film. Khemu's debut as a director is commendable, and it will be interesting to see if he continues in comedy or explores other genres. The fight scenes are well-executed, and the music adds depth to the overall experience.

If you're in the mood for some entertaining nostalgia with friends, ‘Madgaon Express’ is a film worth watching. Amidst recent thriller releases, this film seems very fresh.
