Friendships in Bollywood often shine brightly but can also fade just as quickly due to circumstances and personal conflicts. One such well-known bond was between Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukerji. Once inseparable, their friendship took an unfortunate turn after a major incident involving Salman Khan, leading to a permanent rift between the two actresses.

Once seen together at events and speaking fondly of each other, they now reportedly avoid crossing paths.

When Rani Mukerji and Aishwarya Rai were best friends

A glimpse of their close bond was evident when Aishwarya appeared as a guest on Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, where Rani Mukerji sent her a heartfelt video message.

Rani expressed, "You know I love you. I am embarrassed. I could not come to the show because you know I am not well. I could not come to Delhi. But I want to tell you that I love you. You mean a lot to me. I want to say one more thing that we will always be friends."

However, their friendship eventually fell apart. When Rani appeared on Koffee with Karan years later, Karan Johar brought up the fallout between the two. He said, "Once you two had a good friendship, but today it is not so."

To this, Rani simply replied, "Yes, you know the reason for this."

Karan playfully insisted, "I don’t know anything. Tell me what happened while we are leaving." At the mention of the film Chalte Chalte, both Rani and Kareena Kapoor burst into laughter.

Why Rani Mukerji and Aishwarya Rai had a fallout

The film Chalte Chalte, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was initially offered to Aishwarya Rai, and she had even completed a major portion of the shoot. However, reports suggest that Salman Khan created a disruption on set, leading to Aishwarya being removed from the project.

Eventually, Rani was signed as her replacement, which reportedly left Aishwarya deeply hurt. This incident widened the gap between the two former friends, leading to the end of their bond.

Shah Rukh Khan later addressed the matter in an interview, apologizing for what transpired. He stated, "I regretted what happened to Aishwarya Rai, but I was not behind it because I was not the only producer of the film."
