Numerous abbreviations are used by Gen-Z, and they have evolved into a new language altogether, which is spoken by millennials and members of Gen-Z.

Therefore, you must familiarise yourself with the most prevalent terminology and acronyms used in social media; here are some of them which were most used in the year 2022:

1. LOL: The abbreviation "LOL" stands for "Laughing Out Loud", which can be used as both an interjection and a verb. It is one of the most often used expressions for internet interactions in 2022. The phrase is most significantly used to indicate a smile or a little sense of amusement.

2. ASAP: The phrase "As soon as possible" or the widely used abbreviation ASAP is perceived as impolite. In fact, five 'rudest emails' on a Forbes list had ASAP in the subject line. In 1955, the U.S. first used this terminology and identified it with the mental image of a drill sergeant yelling commands because it is Army slang. Depending on intangible elements like the situation and your relationship with the other person, we may interpret ASAP as rude or demanding.

3. FYI: With the growth of digital communication, several acronyms have found new life, out of which one of them is FYI (For Your Information). It was created decades before the internet's development, but it took off once everyone began using emails. It is frequently used to draw attention to specific facts in formal and informal contexts.

4. G2G: Got to go- The phrase "got to go" or "gotta go" is abbreviated as "G2G" on the internet. It is used in text messages and emails. When the recipient needs to end the conversation immediately, using G2G emphasises the urgency and could indicate that someone is running behind schedule for an appointment or other event. The phrase is used frequently on popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Instagram.

"G2G" can also imply "good to go," which someone might use to indicate the beginning of anything or mention that it's time to go jokingly.

5. TTYL: "TTYL" stands for "Talk to you later." This online expression is used as a goodbye, speak to you soon, and similar phrases. It is frequently used in text messages and instant chats, as well as on social networking platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. People use this shorthand since typing it out on a keyboard is quicker.

6. IMO: The term "IMO " most often means "in my opinion." This trending abbreviated term is used at the beginning of a sentence to express to another person that the thoughts they are about to share are their personal opinion. This is often used to negate someone else's opinion or to tell that one is being honest about something.

7. IKR: "IKR" is an acronym for the expression "I know, right," which first appeared in the early 1990s and then emerged in electronic communication in 2004.  For some language analysts, the phrase has long been a source of irritation. When used alone, the word "I know" indicates that we are aware of or concur with what the other person is saying. Some people claim that including the word "right" transforms the sentence into a question. In reality, the "right" in "I know, right," is only a method to emphasise. Substituting "isn't it" for "right" can also get a similar result.

8. NBD: It is a piece of internet short form that stands for "no big deal," and it means that the recipient shouldn't worry or stress about it because it isn't a big concern. It is an online term and is mainly used in informal or casual contexts.

9. OMW: OMW, which stands for "on my way," is a colloquialism that indicates that you are on your way to meet someone or go somewhere else. "OMW" can also stand for "Oh My Word," "Oh My Wow," or other less prevalent expressions, according to Cyber Definitions.

This acronym is an initialism, which indicates that one would pronounce each letter separately if one spoke it out loud. Therefore, it would be pronounced "oh-em-Dubble-yew" and not "awm-wuh." This term is typically used in text-based interactions and not commonly stated in real life. Therefore, to say "on my way" in person, one would repeat the complete sentence.

10. OMG, which stands for "Oh My God," is a term used to convey shock or astonishment and has the same usage as the other definitions. Typically, these acronyms appear in SMS text messages or on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.
