New Delhi: Even in this day and age of information accessibility, there are many myths related to periods in Indian society, a result of continued belief. Women still avoid talking about periods or any problems related to it openly. Some still believe in the myths their grandmother and mothers have been reiterating. Let us bust some popular myths related to periods.
1. Period blood is toxic: It has been heard that period blood is harmful as it contains a large number of toxins. This is not true and is only a myth. This blood indeed contains a certain amount of uterine tissue, mucus lining, and bacteria, but it is certainly not harmful as projected.
2. Having a period for less than 4 days is bad: It has been heard that it is not good if a woman has a period of fewer than four days. It is only a myth because every woman's menstrual cycle varies. It just depends on the woman's health that for how many days will her periods last.
3. Avoiding eating sour during periods: We usually hear that women should not eat sour things during periods. No scientific research has shown that eating sour things during periods causes damage.
4. Do not wash your head during periods: You may have generally heard that washing hair during periods is incorrect. It's only a myth. Personal grooming has nothing to do with menstruation.
5. Thirty days period cycle is correct: It is believed that the menstrual cycle of women is usually 28 to 35 days. Sometimes this cycle may differ a bit. There's nothing to worry about it.
