New Delhi: The world will witness this year's last lunar eclipse on November 30. This time the lunar eclipse will occur on a full moon day. Kartik Purnima is the fifteenth lunar day of Kartik (November–December) month and is celebrated on the Purnima (full moon) day. It is also known as Tripuri Purnima and Tripurari Purnima. In the Hindu religion, it is believed that Lord Vishnu, on this day, returns to his abode after completing his stay in Bali. This is why it is also known as Deva-Diwali or Deva-Deepawali, as the festival of lights of the gods. As per early inputs, the eclipse will begin at 07:32 UTC (1:02 PM IST) on November 30. The maximum time of the eclipse will be at 09:42 UTC (3:12 PM). It will end at 11:53 UTC (5:23 PM IST). It is a penumbral lunar eclipse. What Is A Penumbral Lunar Eclipse? A penumbral lunar eclipse is a celestial phenomenon when the Sun-Earth and the Moon are aligned imperfectly. the earth casts its shadow on the moon. In a penumbral lunar eclipse, the lesser dense part of the shadow (the penumbra) falls on the moon.  In it, the Moon moves through the outer part of Earth's shadow called the penumbra. So, the moon appears to be a bit dark and is not as noticeable as the other eclipse phases. As much as 82% of the Moon turns a shade darker during the maximum phase of this eclipse.
