Budget-friendly Home Decor Hacks This Diwali:

By Pavnendra Bhadauria, who is the CEO of Artarium said, "The festive season is a time when homes are adorned with beautiful decorations. A home becomes vibrant with rangoli, lights, flowers, and much more. Everybody likes to indulge in home decor and bring that festive vibe. But nobody wishes to do it by breaking the bank, and hence budget-friendly home decor becomes everybody's go-to option."

"With some effort and creativity, it is possible to create budget-friendly home decor for the upcoming festive season. Just changing the bed sheet, curtains, and cushion covers with fabrics like velvet or raw silk adds a distinct festive look. Creating an accent wall, repainting the living room, making DIY rangoli, and using flower garlands can adorn the house," he added.

Sharing some tips, Pavnendra said the following:

  • Creative imagination and some hard work can help you add that festive charm, in a budget friendly manner.
  • You can directly purchase some beautiful ethnic decor pieces available in the market.
  • There are some DIY stencil art options that you can use to make your walls festive-ready.
  • Fresh flowers are another affordable option that can be used to decorate walls, entrances, center tables, etc.
  • Rangoli made using different mediums like flowers, rangoli colours, etc creates a welcoming decor vibe.
  • One can also consider changing the bedsheets, curtains, and cushions with vibrant colours and ethnic textile patterns.
  • Lights and lanterns add warmth to the decor.
  • Scented candles and incense sticks are an instant mood uplifter during festive times.

Eco-Friendly Home Decor Tips That Won't Make A Hole In Your Pocket:

Diwali, also known as the festival of light, is a season of festivities, family reunions, and magnificent adornment. However, with greater awareness of the impact, it is important to ensure celebrations of Diwali are done in an environmentally friendly manner.

Let’s look at a few of these creative and eco-friendly Diwali home decor ideas suggested by Raghunandan Saraf, who is the Founder and CEO, Saraf Furniture, that will brighten up your area, yet gentle on the earth, this year.

  • Craft lanterns from old glass jars, bottles, or tin cans and turn your trash into treasure. Paint and decoupage them in environmentally friendly paint and then place tea lights or LED candles inside. The upcycled lanterns are not only eye-catching but also minimise waste.
  • Use colourful rangoli patterns made from natural substances such as flower petals, leaves, and eco-friendly dyes. This would add some nature to your decor and is also eco-friendly instead of synthetic powders.
  • In place of purchasing the conventional clay diyas, you can try out diyas for yourself made out of recycled paper and natural paints. This type of paper is not only pleasing to the eyes but also economical since it uses less plastics or other metal types compared to other forms of wrappings.

Adding to this, Tejpal Singh Shekhawat, who is the Founder & CEO, Kalyanam Furniture, said "Produce reusable fabric banners or buntings with eco-friendly dyes and materials. The banners could add a bit of colour to the room and can be useful for the remaining celebrations during the year. Also, use natural elements like driftwood, seashells, or stones to make beautiful centerpieces for your dining table or other surfaces. They come in handy as they add a touch of uniqueness to your decor and they are at the same time environmentally friendly."

Lastly, Nidhi Aggarwal, who is the Founder of SpaceMantra said, "Make welcoming door hangings using leftover fabric, jute, or dried leaves to welcome your guests. The sustainable decorations not only look beautiful but also contribute to your entrance with a warm atmosphere and earthiness. Use potted plants to decorate your house. However, they make the environment greener and purify the air. In addition, these are some of those items that can never go out of fashion, and also they can serve as a long-standing house decoration."
