Eating Protein Or Drinking Protein: Check Out What's Better

Protein is a nutrient that is required for tissue growth and repair in the body. Should you eat it or drink it? Here's the answer.

Protein is an essential nutrient required for the growth and repair of tissues in the body. It is a macronutrient that is found in various food sources like meat, fish, eggs, nuts, and legumes. However, in recent years, protein supplements have gained immense popularity, with people using them to supplement their diets and support their fitness goals. Protein supplements come in various forms, including powders, shakes, and bars.

Eating Protein Or Drinking Protein?

For a long time, people have been debating whether it is preferable to consume or drink protein. Sanil Rane, nutritionist at Fast&Up, told ABP Live in an interview, "While both methods have benefits, drinking protein is somewhat superior. This is because protein powders and shakes are easier to eat and are absorbed by the body faster than whole foods."

Benefits Of Drinking Protein:

According to the nutritionist, drinking protein is especially beneficial for people who have a busy lifestyle and may not have time to prepare protein-rich meals. Protein shakes are quick and easy to prepare and can be consumed on the go. Additionally, protein supplements can provide a higher concentration of protein per serving than whole foods, making it easier to reach your daily protein requirements.

Another advantage of drinking protein is that it can be more easily digested than whole foods. Protein supplements are typically low in fat and fiber, which can slow down digestion and make it harder for the body to absorb nutrients. This means that protein shakes and powders can provide a more concentrated and faster source of protein for the body, which can help support muscle growth and recovery after exercise, the nutritionist said.

However, it is important to note that whole foods still have a place in a healthy diet. Whole foods provide other essential nutrients that protein supplements may lack, such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Additionally, whole foods can provide a more varied and satisfying diet, which can help you stick to your nutritional goals over the long term, the health expert added further.

While both eating and drinking protein have their advantages, drinking protein is slightly better and more convenient. Protein supplements are readily available, easily digested, and provide a higher concentration of protein per serving than whole foods. However, it is still important to consume a balanced diet that includes a variety of whole foods to ensure you are getting all the essential nutrients your body needs.
