Yash Chopra's Wife Pamela Chopra Passes Away At 74

Pamela Chopra reportedly had to be hospitalised at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital owing to pneumonia.

New Delhi: On April 20, Pamela Chopra, wife of Bollywood director Yash Chopra, died early in the morning. She was 74 years old. Pamela Chopra reportedly had to be hospitalised at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital owing to age-related health problems. Her condition worsened to the point that she needed to be placed on a ventilator, and on April 20 she passed away. 

According to the Indian Express, she spent 15 days in the hospital due to pneumonia. “She passed away today. She was on ventilator in Lilavati Hospital for 15 days. She had pneumonia,” Dr. Prahlad Prabhudesai confirmed to the media. 

An official note from Yash Raj Films confirmed the tragic news. The team shared the news on social media which reads: "With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection."

Pamela had a beautiful voice and had contributed to the soundtracks of numerous films by the legendary Yash Chopra, winning the hearts of millions of people over the years.  For her husband Yash Chopra's film 'Dil To Pagal Hai' (1997), Pamela collaborated on the writing alongside Yash Chopra, their son Aditya Chopra, and professional writer Tanuja Chandra.

She has also worked as a costume designer for films including 'Silsila' and 'Sawaal', and as a writer for 'Kabhie Kabhie'.

She was last seen in the YRF documentary 'The Romantics' in which she discussed her husband Yash Chopra's life and career. 

Pamela and Yash Chopra tied the knot in a formal ceremony in 1970. They're the proud parents of boys Aditya and Uday Chopra. Aditya is an accomplished filmmaker and producer while Uday has a career in both acting and filmmaking.
