Variety’s Awards Editor Predicts Pan Nalin’s Chhello Show For Final Oscar Nominations

Pan Nalin’s 'Chhello Show' is to be officially shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.

New Delhi: Pan Nalin’s much-loved coming-of-age Gujarati language drama LAST FILM SHOW (Chhello Show) created history by becoming the first Indian film in 21 years to be officially shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards. As the Oscar fever builds up, the film has now emerged as an odds-on favourite and is being seen as a top contender for the nominations. Last week, Global icon Priyanka Chopra lent her support to the film and hosted a screening for Academy members in Los Angeles.

Recently, Variety’s renowned Awards Editor and Senior Vice President Tim Gray listed Last Film Show among his top 5 predictions for the Oscar nominations. Variety is a leading international entertainment news company especially known for its spot-on awards predictions. Tim Gray had earlier named Last Film Show as a film raising India’s hopes for an Oscar to win this year.

Sharing the news, the official account of Roy Kapur Films wrote, “With Spielberg's #TheFabelmans and our very own @pan.nalin's #LastFilmShow both gracing the screens this year, Tim Gray (Awards Editor of Features for @variety) writes about how fortunate we are to witness the masters of cinema looking back on their careers and their love for the medium.”

‘Last Film Show’ follows a cinema-obsessed boy, Samay (Bhavin Rabari), in rural Gujarat and his coming of age as he moves forward to realise his dreams. The film is inspired by director Pan Nalin’s own childhood and his friendship with a local projectionist and has been praised by critics worldwide ever since it had its premiere at the TriBeCa film festival.

The film was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur Dheer Momaya and Pan Nalin. And released by Samuel Goldwyn Films in the US and by Roy Kapur Films in India. Orange Studios is releasing the film in France, while Shochiku Studios and Medusa are bringing it to Japanese and Italian cinemas respectively.
