Popular television actress Divyanka Tripathi, best known for her role in 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein', recently opened up about being scammed by her Chartered Accountant (CA), who fled with Rs. 12 lakh of her hard-earned money. 

Divyanka Tripathi was duped by her CA

In an interview with Hindi Rush, Divyanka shared the details of the incident, explaining how the trusted CA, who managed accounts for several actors on her set, initially worked efficiently for two years. "I was working 20-24 hours a day and barely had time to consult other CAs or verify his work. He came from another city and seemed reliable," she said. 

Divyanka recalled how the CA convinced her to invest in Fixed Deposits (FDs) and manage her taxes. "He told me, 'Ma'am, you’re not spending much. What about your taxes?' I signed four cheques for a bank in my name, trusting him to handle the rest. But then, he disappeared with Rs. 12 lakh. I kept calling him, but there was no response."

The actress recounted the steps she took to recover the money. "I sent a friend to his city to retrieve the cheques. Out of the four, three bounced, and I lost Rs. 9 lakh. I filed a case for the bounced cheques, but it was a long, frustrating process with constant delays. My father traveled from Bhopal to support me, but even our lawyer turned out to be untrustworthy. He told me, 'Ma’am, all your files are missing.' Eventually, I gave up the fight." 

Divyanka reflected on the financial strain this caused. "When the show ended, I realised the true value of money. I managed by doing small advertisements to get by."
