Netflix’s global phenomenon is gearing up for its final act, and Squid Game Season 3 promises to be more intense, emotional, and explosive than ever. The South Korean survival drama has captivated audiences worldwide with its high-stakes premise, and now, the story of Player 456 — also known as Gi-hun — races toward its ultimate conclusion.

Here’s everything you need to know about Squid Game Season 3, including the release date, returning cast, plot twists, new characters, and what to expect as the final game begins.

When Does ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Premiere on Netflix?

Mark your calendars: Squid Game Season 3 will premiere globally on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT on Netflix.
All six episodes will be available to stream at once, giving fans the chance to binge the entire finale in one go.

What Is ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 About?

Season 3 picks up immediately after the devastating events of Season 2, where Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) attempted rebellion against the masterminds behind the game failed catastrophically. The finale saw the Front Man — revealed to be Player 001 in disguise — sabotage the resistance, killing Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) in the process.

Now, Gi-hun is at his lowest, grappling with guilt, betrayal, and the loss of his closest ally. But the Squid Game doesn't pause for grief. As the competition resumes, surviving players are dragged into even more sinister and emotionally punishing rounds.

The official synopsis reads: “Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round.”

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who returns to close the series, adds: “Gi-hun is overwhelmed with a profound sense of defeat and remorse. In Season 3, we’ll see how Gi-hun returns to the game arena and faces the challenges ahead.”

Gi-hun’s Final Mission: Can Player 456 Stop the Games?

As the last man standing in Season 1, Gi-hun has been on a mission to take down the system from within. But after his failed uprising, he’s forced back into the arena, not as a pawn — but as a man with nothing left to lose.

Lee Jung-jae, who plays the tormented protagonist, says Gi-hun may not even realize who betrayed him.

“I don’t think he knows yet. I think he’s blaming himself for everything that happened,” the actor shared with Tudum.

Now, Gi-hun must find a way to outwit the increasingly complex traps of the game, while questioning whether justice is even possible in a system this broken.

What Happens to the Front Man and His Brother Jun-ho?

Meanwhile, the mysterious and ruthless Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) has fully resumed control of the Squid Game. As new rounds begin, he prepares to welcome a fresh group of sinister VIPs and assert dominance over the chaos once more.

His brother Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), still alive and searching for answers, continues his hunt for the island's secrets. But danger lurks close — and a hidden traitor may destroy everything he’s worked for.

A Quick Refresher: What Happened in ‘Squid Game’ Season 2?

Season 2 became Netflix’s most-watched show of its release week, and for good reason. The season followed Gi-hun's growing resistance as he attempted to rally players against the game's creators. The rebellion nearly succeeded — until the shocking reveal that the Front Man had been masquerading as Player 001 all along.

The betrayal shattered Gi-hun, both emotionally and strategically, and left many of his allies dead. Season 3 opens with the aftermath of that failed coup, with the stakes raised and the future uncertain.

What to Expect from the Grand Finale

With Season 3 confirmed as the final chapter of the Squid Game saga, all eyes are on Gi-hun’s last stand. Will he destroy the cruel system that broke him — or will the game claim his soul like so many before him?

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk has promised a gripping, emotional, and satisfying conclusion to the global hit that reshaped television storytelling. Prepare for heartbreak, revenge, and unexpected alliances when Squid Game Season 3 premieres on June 27.
