New Delhi: Day 3 of the Merry Christmas box office collection: The movie's first weekend at the domestic box office saw a sluggish start. The thriller starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi released on Friday in all languages with ₹2.45 crore nett. According to a report from Sacnilk.com, Merry Christmas made its highest-ever earnings in India on Sunday, taking in over ₹3.75 crore nett.

The portal reports that Merry Christmas made ₹3.45 crore nett in India on Saturday across all languages. In Tamil, it made ₹33 lakh, ₹3.1 crore in Hindi, ₹2 lakh in Telugu. The movie, which was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Hindi, brought in ₹22 lakh in Tamil, ₹2.2 crore in Hindi, and ₹3 lakh in Telugu on its opening day.

Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, the thriller stars Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in prominent roles. The movie features two distinct supporting casts and was filmed in two languages. Starring in the Hindi version are Pratima Kannan, Vinay Pathak, Sanjay Kapoor, and Tinnu Anand. However, Rajesh Williams, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Radhika Sarathkumar play the same parts in the Tamil version. The movie narrates the tale of how two people's worlds are turned upside down on an ordinary Christmas Eve.

Critics and fans gave Merry Christmas mixed reviews. On Sunday, director Anurag Kashyap praised Sriram Raghavan, the man behind Merry Christmas, describing it as a "Hitchcockian love story."

He wrote, "Love this film .. @sriram.raghavanofficial has never known to play safe and this time has gone a made hitchcockian love story with two actors belonging to different cultures and them coming together on Christmas Eve. He again does new things and creates a slow burn with a terrific pay off. Both @katrinakaif and @actorvijaysethupathi bring their best game to it . Also @sanjaykapoor2500 @pathakvinay and #ashwini. Do give it a shot . @matchboxshots @rameshtaurani . Great to see you making this happen . And the cinephile in Sriram is as omnipresent in this as on his T-shirts and his life . ❤️"
