‘It Was Nothing Less Than A Nightmare’: Paras Kalnawat After His Ouster From ‘Anupamaa'

On Tuesday, the makers of 'Anupamaa' announced that the contract of actor Paras Kalnawat, who plays Samar Shah, in the show has been terminated over a breach of contract.

New Delhi: Rupali Ganguly’s 'Anupamaa' is the most popular show on Indian television and it tops the chart every week. On Tuesday, the show’s production house announced that the contract of actor Paras Kalnawat, who plays Samar Shah, in the show has been terminated over a breach of contract.

Producer Rajan Shahi issued an official statement regarding Paras' ouster from his show. "We as a production house won't entertain breach of contract. We have terminated his services as an actor with immediate effect. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours," he said.

The reason behind Paras’ ouster is his participation in the rival channel's dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’. Paras also took to Instagram to share his feelings about his exit from the show. He posted a reel on the song ‘Kesariya’ and wrote, “Every journey has an end to it. Will miss bunch of people from my team. Will definitely speak about my side of the story and what i had to face being part of the show. It was nothing less than a nightmare. People close to me in the show were well informed about me being unhappy around but no actions were taken. It's indeed a mix feeling. A sigh of relief with a drop of tear. Will always be thankful to Rajan Sir, Romesh Sir, Vivek Ji, Aarif Ji, Gulshan Ji, Sunand Sir and the entire DKP team for giving me this opportunity and for making me part of this beautiful show and will always be grateful for all the love you'll have given me. I've worked with one of the best producers, best direction team and the best DOP. But the show must go on. Will give my best wherever I go and will make my actions speak louder than words.

The actor also spoke about his sudden exit from the show to Hindustan Times. “I didn’t know that if I do a show with another channel, they will have an issue. I respect Rajan Shahi for giving me this opportunity. (But) It’s been more than a year since I don’t have anything to do in the show. I’m in scenes that are 18 pages long and I stand there in the background and have no dialogues. I spoke to them earlier but there was no action taken. I chose the dance reality show. I didn’t know the consequences though,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The actor also said that he is not disheartened by his exit. “It’s not disheartening. I’m not heartbroken as I was anyway not close to my co-actors. (But) I didn’t want to hurt the makers. I’m looking forward to better growth as the growth of my character (on the show) stopped long back. I had nothing to do in the show since last year,” he told Hindustan Times.

'Anupamma' airs from Monday to Saturday at 10pm on Star Plus.
