The superhero epic has not only come close to covering its production costs in just a few days but has also set a new benchmark for solo Superman films.
Global Debut Hits $217 Million
According to studio figures, 'Superman' earned $122 million from North America and an additional $95 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide debut total to a staggering $217 million. Considering the film’s production budget of $225 million, the strong opening suggests a healthy runway for continued commercial success. Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, will be optimistic about the title’s performance in the coming weeks.
Breaking Records Set by Previous Superman Films
The new film has officially claimed the title of best opening for a solo Superman movie, surpassing the $190 million global debut of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013), which starred Henry Cavill. Prior entries such as 2006’s Superman Returns managed a little over $100 million during its opening weekend, while the 1978 Christopher Reeve-led classic had launched with just $7.5 million—then a record for Warner Bros. at the time. This evolution underlines the growing global appetite for superhero cinema and a fresh take on the iconic character.
