Cop Who Stopped AR Rahman's Pune Concert Midway Says He Was Just Doing His Job

AR Rahman’s concert was recently stopped mid-way in Pune for overshooting the 10 pm deadline. The cop who stormed the stage to stop the show has spoken about the entire incident.

New Delhi: AR Rahman’s concert was recently stopped mid-way in Pune for overshooting the 10 pm deadline. The cop who stormed the stage to stop the show has spoken about the entire incident. Senior police inspector Santosh Patil said that he was doing his job.

In an interview with Pune Mirror, the inspector said, “I do not want to give any more comments. Anyway, as a police officer, I am not supposed to give interviews to the media. The Supreme Court has set a deadline of 10 pm after which no loud music is allowed to be played.”

He also shared that he’d tried approaching the organisers and when he didn’t get any response, he walked up to the stage to stop the show. “I tried to contact the organisers but they did not respond. Therefore, I had to go onto the stage and ask Rahman and other performers to stop the music. I had no option as it was past the permissible time,” he told Pune Mirror.

Earlier, Rahman had tweeted about the incident and said he had a "Rockstar moment" after he performed for the audience in the city.

In a tweet, the double Oscar winner said he and his band were "overwhelmed" by the concertgoers' love and wanted to "give more" to them.

"Did we all just have the 'Rockstar' moment on stage yesterday? I think we did! We were overwhelmed by the love of the audience and kept wanting to give more.. Pune, thank you once again for such a memorable evening," Rahman said.

The 56-year-old singer-musician also shared a video from the live concert held at Raja Bahadur Mills in Pune on Sunday evening.

"Here’s a little snippet of our roller coaster ride," wrote Rahman alongside a wink emoji.

After his concert, a video went viral on social media platforms in which a police officer was seen walking on the stage and asking Rahman, other artistes and organisers to stop the music show as it was already past 10 o'clock.
